To be a
God-centered, people-oriented fellowship of love,
God is the center of all that we do. We recognize
that people are the most effective means of communicating Christian
love and faith. We are concerned with people because God was so
concerned that God sent God's only begotten son into the world for the
redemption of people, then we too need to be concerned with the
wholeness of persons in our congregation. Being a loving fellowship
will encourage each other's faith and strengthen members to be God's
servants devoted to serving God in the world. We need to be the arms,
legs, and body of our Lord through which the spirit of the living
Christ works. This means that we need to pray for God's guidance and
use a variety of means to assist in leading persons to a relationship
with God. If we experience God's love in our relationships with others
then each person can accept and understand God's love for each of us.
We seek to grow in our awareness and knowledge of God's word and plan
for each of us as individuals as well as for us as a body of believers
as we become whole persons in God's likeness. We can do this by
providing the opportunity and atmosphere for God's self-giving love to
be experienced within our fellowship and through us to be communicated
to the world.
To be active, involved witnesses for Christ,
servants and ministers of God,
We believe that our congregation should be active
and involved in East Dallas and world issues. We seek to make God's
love known to all people by recognizing that as a church we exist to
serve and are called as God's servants. As a Christian community we
are commissioned to perform the tasks of being the light of our
community and the world through the witness of our entire church
community.
To show by example how people of many cultures
can live and work together in harmony,
Since our community in East Dallas is made up of
many cultures, we believe that God is calling Grace Church to show by
example how people of many cultures can live and work together in
harmony. We believe that we can assist our cause by giving,
communicating and responding to love in our community by making
persons aware of opportunities and services offered at Grace Church
and by inviting and welcoming into fellowship all persons regardless
of race, resources, or creed. We further believe that we should strive
to help those in need by providing special services that emphasize
training and productive work. We are committed to our belief that "Out
of Many, God Makes Us One."
To seek peace, justice and reconciliation in
our community and world,
We believe that our mission includes providing the
opportunity and atmosphere for God's self-giving love to be
experienced by persons within our fellowship and through them to be
communicated to others in our community and world. Our task is to be
active witnesses for Christ continuing the task proclaimed in Luke
4:18-19 which should lead us to be supportive of policies and programs
that are just and compassionate in our society and oppose policies
that are not. Through consistent prayers for guidance by the Holy
Spirit we can be led to understand the real meaning of "truth that
frees and love that reconciles." We seek to make a difference as we
live out our Christian faith in our community and the world.
To fulfill connectional responsibilities
between Grace Church, United Methodists and the Church Universal.
We believe that our mission at Grace is to witness
beyond our local congregation and neighborhood by participating in
District and Conference projects, such as Visionaries, and attending
meetings to learn about them and by broadening our knowledge about the
Bible, other people and their problems, the world wide work of the
United Methodist Church, and the Church Universal.
And, because we
believe that God's love in Jesus Christ has broken down the walls that
divide us, we seek to embody that love in our congregation and welcome
persons of all races, sexual orientations, and economic circumstances.
