This Sunday’s Parable of the Good Samaritan reminds us that everyone is our neighbor, and extending God’s mercy to them is how we are good neighbors. The other readings speak of God’s desire that we do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with our Creator.
Our hymns reflect the readings and span 150 years of hymnody: Praise, My Soul [LAUDA ANIMA] (1840), and Here I Am, Lord, by Dan Schutte (1981).
The remaining music in our Worship will be provided by flautist Joshua Nguyen, whom I have mentored as musician for 10 years and was his Confirmation Sponsor. We will be playing a variety of selections throughout worship that speak of Grace or simply fit the liturgical moment:
Voluntary: Ornament of Grace by Bernard Sanders Prelude: Come, My Way, My Truth, My Life by Richard DeLong Anthem: Flourish on Lobe den Herren & Hyfrydol arr. by Brant Adams Offertory: A Grace by Georg Philipp Telemann Communion Prelude by Charles Callahan – quoting Picardy (Let All Mortal Flesh) and Ubi Caritas Chant Postlude: Trumpet Tune by Henry Purceli
Next Sunday the men of the choir return to the Loft to bless us with their talents.
